Special Father’s Day Blog
It’s that time of year again: Father’s Day is this Sunday. If you’ve forgotten all about Father’s Day, aren’t you fortunate that you stumbled upon this blog post to remind you?
To celebrate Father’s Day, we will give a brief history of the origin of the day and share with you the different dates that countries celebrate Father’s Day. Oh, and to cap it all off, we’ve collected some Dad jokes just for the fun of it. Without further ado, let’s begin.
Origin of the day
Father’s Day was more difficult to sell compared to Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day succeeded largely due to the support of retailers seeing a way to profit. Accordingly, Father’s Day didn’t take off like Mother’s Day, as fathers didn’t have the same sentimental appeal.
On July 5, 1908, a church in West Virginia sponsored the first event honouring fathers. This one-time Sunday sermon was dedicated to the 362 men who had died in the December’s explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, West Virginia.
A year later, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd tried to implement an equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. Because of her efforts, Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day on June 19, 1910. President Calvin Coolidge would eventually suggest that the state governments observe Father’s Day.
In 1972, Richard Nixon signed a proclamation to make Father’s Day a permanent federal holiday, rather than a state holiday.

Dad Jokes
There are a lot of bad Dad jokes out there on the internet. And we mean bad in the sense that fathers wouldn’t be caught saying any of them. We’ve collected some of the jokes a father would actually say/has said.
- What do you call an Argentinian with a rubber toe? Roberto
- Why did the scarecrow win an award: Because he was outstanding in his field
- You: “Dad, I’m hungry.” Your dad: “Hello, Hungry, I’m Dad”
- You: “Dad, can you put the cat out?” Your dad: “I didn’t know it was on fire.”
- What’s Forrest Gump’s password? 1forrest1
- Dad: When this heals will I be able to play the piano? Doctor: Yes, you’ll be fine in a few days. Dad: Perfect! I’ve always wanted to be able to play an instrument.
We hope you enjoyed those and hopefully you end up turning the tables on Dad and using one of these jokes against him.
