Special Easter Blog

Easter is known for many things: bunnies, eggs, chocolate, candy, and, of course, Christianity. More specifically, Peeps are an Easter hallmark – the bunny shape, not the chick shape. In celebration of Easter, we collected some general facts about Easter and Peeps, along with a slideshow of the reason why Peeps are specifically called out in this blog.

Spoiler: it’s cool!

General Easter Facts

  • 70% of Easter candy purchased is chocolate.
  • 15,873 lb is the weight of the Guinness World Records’ tallest chocolate Easter egg, coming in at 34 ft 1.05″ tall.
  • 76% of Americans think that people should start eating a chocolate bunny’s ears before any other body part.
  • Bunnies are associated with Easter not because of Christianity, but because of a pre-Christian, 13th century Germany. The goddess of spring and fertility, Eostre, was symbolized by the rabbit.
  • The first Easter bunny legend was documented in the 1500s. By the late 1600s, the first story with a rabbit laying and hiding eggs was published. German immigrants brought these legends to the United States in the 1700s.

Peeps

  • In 1953, it took 27 hours to create one Peep chick. Now, it takes six minutes.
  • In the 1950s Peeps had their wings clipped, resulting in the shape that Peeps are today.

  • If you were to take all of the peeps produced in one year, they would circle the earth twice.
  • Peeps are the #1 non-chocolate brand at Easter and have been for more than 20 years.

Peeps Dioramas

Did you know there’s a thing called a Peeps diorama? We didn’t either. And you will notice that all of the Peeps in these dioramas are of the bunny variety. You know, to keep it as relevant to Easter as possible.

Here are some of the best dioramas we’ve found:
