Solutions to Low Visibility in the Supply Chain
In last week’s blog, we wrote about the challenges of visibility in the supply chain. This week we will explore some of the potential solutions of poor product visibility. This blog post is by no means an exhaustive list of solutions, but some of the best solutions to improving product visibility for your clients.
Freight Visibility – Transport Management System
Transportation management systems (TMS) allow your client to see where their freight is and whether their freight was picked up or delivered and when. Not only that, but a TMS can also schedule reports to be delivered by e-mail, which can detail visibility key performance indicators. For more on the benefits of a TMS, read this blog.
Warehouse Visibility – Warehouse Management System
A warehouse management system (WMS) can be a powerful piece of software to provide greater visibility of inventory and product receipts and shipments. Not only that but a client could make orders, depending on the WMS, to ship a product from the warehouse to one of their customers. Depending on the WMS you use, your client will have access to a client portal in which they could check a product’s status or location. For more information on a WMS and its effect on customer service, read this blog.
Customer Support
A robust customer support staff is another way of providing visibility. It is cheaper in the short term, but in the long term will be more expensive than investing in a TMS or WMS. This is still a viable option, as the more staff you have and the better trained they are, the better they can help your customers.
Above are just some of the solutions to improving product visibility for your client. You can either implement these in-house or even outsource them to a third-party service provider. It is best to address visibility as soon as you can before you fall behind your competition.
